Home Team Valpo Second Annual Fall Cleanup October 30th

With cooler weather just around the corner, Home Team Valpo has organized a Cleanup Event in an effort to help local residents prepare their homes for winter. Teams of both highly skilled craftsmen and volunteers will assist homeowners with outdoor projects like raking leaves, painting sheds and doors, or trimming shrubs.

“Home Team Valpo will help lift up families and neighborhoods by assisting people in making their homes safer and more comfortable,” said Valparaiso mayor Matt Murphy.

Home Team Valpo was launched in October 2020 by volunteer residents. During their first fall kickoff project, they were able to assist six homeowners with yard cleanup and maintenance, keeping the safety of their volunteers and applicants in mind as they navigated the COVID landscape.

However, during their Spring Cleanup in May 2021, more than 100 people volunteered, including members of the Valparaiso High School football and soccer teams. Together they were able to tackle bigger projects, like work on the Creekside Trail, in addition to several homes.

“By helping individuals and neighborhoods, we ultimately improve our community’s quality of life, one home at a time,” said President Bill Oeding.

Those needing assistance are strongly encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to senior citizens and physically disabled property owners as well as veterans in the community in need of assistance with their home maintenance.
